“Fire Tree” was created by first laying out and wet felting (saturating with soap-water and rolling in a bamboo mat approx. 900 rotations) colorful wool, flax and silk fibers on a base wool batting. After drying, I needle felt the design, freeform stitch and embroider for added dimension and interest. The felt is approximately 5”×7” and mounted in a red 8”x10” reclaimed wood frame.
I purchase and recycle used frames whenever possible. I also remove the glass fronts from my paintings, as I believe part of the experience is having direct access to the rich textures. For greatest care and longevity, paintings are best hung out of direct sunlight.
